Bourgogne.

Burgundy’s vineyards run for 230 kilometres from Chablis in the north to the Mâconnais in the south, 32,301 hectares split into 84 appellations, from regional Bourgogne up to 33 grands crus. Almost everything is made from two grapes: Chardonnay (57% of the vines) and Pinot Noir (34%), with Aligoté a distant third. The heart is the Côte d’Or between Dijon and Santenay, whose patchwork of named vineyards, the climats, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are about 3,500 wine estates, most of them small family domaines, besides more than 300 merchant houses and 16 cooperatives. 450 producers from Falstaff’s guide and OpenStreetMap on one map, with restaurants, places to stay and directions by train, bus and bike.
